SENIORS VISIT LOCAL ARTIST STUDIOS, Sept 2015 - Feb 2016
I organized an event series where seniors from local senior centers went on field trips to artists' studios. The idea was to develop intergenerational relationships in Bushwick/Ridgewood, the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood where I live. With an Artist Community Engagement Grant from the Rema Hort Mann Foundation, I coordinated two field trips and one on-site project with 3 different Seniors Centers. Each Senior Center was very different demographically. There was a lot of research and communication with the seniors to help them choose which artist to visit, so in the process they learned about a variety of artists in the neighborhood. Artists invited the seniors into their personal spaces and we shared conversations about art, identity, as well as the history of the neighborhood.
