My paintings are portraits of temporary sculptures made from studio remnants: tape, cardboard, fabric, etc. In the translation from sculpture to painting, I dramatize the tension between illusion and flatness. Each painting distills a sculpture into a flat image while also documenting an intuitive gesture. My practice fulfills a desire to combine playful gesture with systematic observation, while also participating in a discussion of abstract painting.

I am investigating a type of “material mysticism” in which physical objects are animated with psychic potential. I am looking for ways to express the extrasensory within the physical and to turn each painting into a lucky charm.
